In this guide, we will show you various methods to fix the lagging issue on your Pixel device running the latest Android 14. The fourteenth iteration of the OS has bought in a truckload of goodies for the end users. However, on the flip side, it has paved the way for some major issues, some of which have even bricked many devices [yes, devices getting bricked via official updates is a thing nowadays!].

While users were still reeling with ways to deal with that issue, another infuriating bug has just managed to creep in right in front of Google’s eye. As of now, numerous users have voiced their concern that their Pixel device is excessively lagging right after updating it to Android 14.

Let alone carrying out graphics-intensive tasks, even watching YouTube videos or browsing through sites is proving to be quite a challenging task. If you also echo the same thought, then this guide will help you out. Follow along for the fixes.

It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.

FIX 1: Boot to Safe Mode

Your first course of action should be to boot your device to Safe Mode. Doing so will disable all the third-party apps. If the issue gets rectified in this mode, then the culprit is indeed an app that needs to be removed at the earliest. Here’s how all of this could be carried out:

  1. Long press the Power key to bring up the Power menu.
  2. Then long tap on Reboot to bring up the Safe Mode prompt.
  3. No tap OK and your device will boot to Safe Mode. Check if the issue is there or not.

  4. If it isn’t then reboot your device back to normal mode.
  5. Now uninstall the recently installed apps one at a time until the issue gets rectified.
  6. The last uninstalled app which fixes the Pixel Android 14 lagging issue is your culprit!

FIX 2: Disable Multiple Users

Multiple profile seems to be the single biggest reason why many Pixel devices got bricked after installing the latest Android 14 update. For a few lucky users whose devices weren’t bricked, they have to deal with constant lags even while using apps like WhatsApp. So as of now, you should consider disabling or removing multiple profiles from your device and only use the single profile as your main primary one.

  1. Head over to Settings > System > Multiple Users.
  2. Then disable the toggle enxt to Allow Multiple Users.
  3. Now check if it fixes the Pixel Android 14 lagging issue.Pixel Android 14 Lag

FIX 3: Force Peak Brightness

If you are facing lags and stutters while scrolling through third-party apps, then consider enabling the Force Peak Brightness feature. Here’s how it could be done:

  1. Head over to Settings > About Phone > Tap on Build Number 7 times.
  2. This will enable Dev Options. So go to Settings > System > Developer Options.
  3. Now enable the toggle next to Force Peak Brightness and check out the result.

FIX 4: Factory Reset

While this fix comes with a higher success rate, however, it will also remove all the data from your device. So please take a backup beforehand and then refer to the below steps:

  1. To begin with, head over to Settings > System > Reset Options.
  2. Then tap on Erase All Data (Factory Reset) > Erase All Data.Pixel Android 14 Lag
  3. Wait for the process to complete. Once done, set up your device.
  4. Now check whether it fixes the Pixel lagging issue on Android 14.

FIX 5: Downgrade to Android 13

If none of the aforementioned tweaks worked out in your favor, then your last course of action should be to downgrade your device to the older yet stable Android 13. However, do note that this process requires an unlocked bootloader and will wipe off all the data from your device [moreover, it obviously wouldn’t work with Pixel 8/Pro as they came with Android 14 out of the box!]. So if that’s well and good, then you could refer to our guide on Downgrade Pixel from Android 14 to Android 13 [2 Methods] [Video].
