In this guide, we will show you a couple of workarounds that might help you fix the screen flickering issue on your Pixel 7/Pro device. When it comes to software optimizations, then there’s no better player in the market than Google. However, things have been much better if it gave the same level of attention to the hardware domain. Recently, we covered the rear camera glass breaking and the yellow saturation on the display.

While the dust surrounding those issues was yet to settle down, a new one has already made its way. As of now, numerous users have voiced their concern that they are noticing considerable screen flickering issues on their Pixel 7/Pro device. What is making the matter worse is the fact that there is no common link during which users are witnessing this issue.

From watching an HDR video to changing the video resolution, interacting with PIP mode, or even enabling AOD, users have noticed these flickers during all these activities. On a more frightening note, the issue seems to result in the appearance of green lines near the Power button as well. With that said, there does exist a couple of nifty methods that might help you address this bug. So without further ado, let’s check them out.

It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success for you. So with that in mind, let’s get started.

FIX 1: Disable Graphics Driver Preferences

Since all the instigating factors of this issue are related to the display, there is a strong possibility that the culprit might be the Graphics Driver Preferences. Therefore, let’s turn it off and check out the results.

  1. Head over to Settings > About Phone and tap on Build Number 7 times.
  2. Then go to System > Developer Options > Graphics Driver Preferences.
  3. Now turn off Use Graphics Driver Preferences and check out the results.Pixel 7 Pro screen flickering

FIX 2: Reset Adaptive Brightness

When enabled, the Adaptive Brightness feature will automatically adjust the device brightness settings according to the environment as well as the apps that you are currently interacting with. However, during multitasking when you are dealing with multiple apps at one go, then this feature could end up performing abruptly. Therefore, you could either disable it from Settings > Display or reset it to the factory default state, using the instructions given below:

  1. To begin with, head over to Settings > Apps > See All Apps.
  2. Then select the Device Health Service app from the list.

  5. Check if it fixes the screen flickering issue on your Pixel 7/Pro.

FIX 3: Disable Camera when not in use

Some users had found out that the screen flickering tends to stop when the camera is disabled. So if possible, consider disabling it and only enable it when required. Here’s how it could be done:

  1. Head over to Settings > Apps > Show All Apps > select Camera.
  2. Then tap on Disable > Disable App in the confirmation prompt.Pixel 7 Pro screen flickering
  3. Check if it rectifies the display flickering issue on your device.
  4. To re-enable it, go to Settings > Apps > Camera and tap Enable.

That’s it. These were the three different methods that could help you fix the screen flickering issue on your Pixel 7/Pro device. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.

Guess what: Problem Solved! I had my Google Pixel 7 Pro screen replaced (no damage at all to what I had) yesterday, and so far, no problems whatsoever! The shop that did it (UbreakIFixm an authorized Google repair shop), could not really explain the mehanism except to say that yes, a bad screen can cause that problem and that hey had had the same fix a few previous times. Thoughts?

None of these fixes worked. What to do now? It’s impossible to get throught to Google. My phone is less than 6 months old, I think they owe me a replacement, no?

Thank you, Sadique, for your great suggestions. I have been grappling with this exact problem for a couple of months now, but nothing, including your three suggestions, has worked for me. And with Google making it nearly impossible to get support, I’m getting close to just claiming a new, replacement phone under the warranty, but that would leave me with no phone for quite a while, I suppose, as opposed to the half useful phone I have now. I do absolutely love the phone, especially the photography, when it works.

  • Thanks for your suggestions, I tried all of them, so far (I just disabled the camera) nothing has worked 🙂 But hey, what to expect from a cheap $1000 camera. Any other thoughts on this subject? For example, how can I get a real person from Google Pixel on the phone? thanks,.
