The culprit behind this issue is the latest buggy update released by YouTube. So to rectify it, you will have to downgrade it to the earlier stable build. Here’s how it could be done:

  1. To begin with, head over to the Settings menu on your device.
  2. Then go to Apps > See All Apps and select YouTube from the list.
  3. After that, tap on the overflow icon situated at the top right.

  4. Then select Uninstall Updates > OK in the confirmation dialog box.
  5. Again go to the YouTube app info page and this time tap on App Details.
  6. Now tap on the overflow icon situated at the top right and uncheck Enable Auto Update.YouTube black triangle in video thumbnail

That’s it. You have successfully downgraded to the earlier stable build and disabled auto-update as well. With this, the issue of the black triangle in the YouTube video thumbnail stands rectified as well. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix.
