The culprit behind this issue is the latest update rolled out to the Google Phone app. So to rectify it, you just need to downgrade the app to its earlier stable version. Here’s how it could be done:

  1. Head over to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Phone.
  2. Then tap on the overflow icon and select Uninstall Updates > OK.Cannot Call via Google Search Result
  3. Now scroll to the bottom and tap on App Details. This will take you to its Play Store page.
  4. Then tap on the overflow icon and uncheck Enable Auto Update.

As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix.
