Does Nothing Phone 2 Has HDR Capabilities in Netflix?

The High Dynamic Range offers an extended palette in terms of color gamut, contrast, and dynamic range and provides a visible enhancement in the overall video quality. And for once, these are not just gimmicky terms but make an actual difference to the viewing experience. When it comes to Android devices, the million-dollar question for streamers and binge-watchers is whether or not their device supports HDR.

In this regard, most Android device nowadays does support HDR however, that doesn’t necessarily mean that each of the individual streamers apps will do so as well. As far as the general reviews are concerned, they mostly discuss about the generic HDR capabilities. However, you wouldn’t see them nitpicking and discussing about individual apps. As a result of which, users are generally left out in the lurch, eagerly looking for an answer to that question.

The latest set of users to be a part of this domain is the owners of Nothing Phone 2 who have asked across numerous forums if their device has HDR Capabilities in Netflix or not. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide will make you aware of this answer right away.

No, Nothing Phone 2 does not have HDR Capabilities for Netflix. The below screenshot is taken directly from Nothing Phone 2 by trusted techie MaxWinebach on Twitter which is enough to justify the statement. This really comes as a surprise to the device owners even more so considering the fact that other devices in this price range [or even lower than that] which were launched earlier than Nothing 2 tend to support HDR.

The perfect example of the same is Pixel 6A which has HDR 10-HEVC capabilities [see the below screenshot]. So what could be the reason behind this? Well, every OEM does have to pay an undisclosed amount to Netflix to gain HDR capabilities which the OEM might then add to the overall price of the device and thin turn will push up the price.

It could be the reason that Nothing didn’t want to push the price of its second iteration because some were already calling it overpriced when compared to its predecessor and even more because it comes with the last generation’s flagship processor instead of the newest one. Apart from that, we have also come across some reports wherein they have stated that for a device to gain HDR capabilities for Netflix, it needs to add the app as preinstalled- right out of the box.

So this would then mean a bloated OS which is against what the OEM stands for. Combining all these reasons and we might see why the Nothong Phone2 doesn’t have HDR Capabilities. But even then, it is definitely going to leave the users disappointed, and they have every right to the same.

What are your views on this? Will it going to be a major deciding factor in your purchase of this device or the lack of HDR wouldn’t going to be a major roadblock towards your intention to get hold of the latest Nothing Phone?
