UPDATE: If you thought the June update was worse, then wait until you install the July Update as it has further worsened the Battery drain issue on Pixel 7/Pro and older Pixel devices. Scroll to the end to read more on this. The original story follows below.
Another month, but the same old Pixel story. Numerous Pixel 7 Pro users have once again voiced their concern that they are witnessing an astronomical amount of battery drain right after installing the June 2023 update. To make the matter worse, this is also resulting in the device being overheated. While we have seen sudden battery depletion after installing security patches across other OEMs as well, however, that is once in a blue moon phenomenon.
But with Pixel, one is usually surprised if the OTA updates don’t pave the way for a bug that is related to the battery! Moroever, what is even more infuriating to note is the fact that this issue had already reached new heights with the May update and there were high hopes that it might finally get addressed with the next update. And here we are with just the June update infact taking this issue to an altogether new level!
Pixel 7 Pro Battery Drain worsens with June 2023 Update
In this regard, a flood of complaints is already lined up across numerous Reddit threads and the official Google Forums. But as is the case each time, these concerns will fall on deaf ears. As of now, you do have the option to take matters into your own hands, but it would come at a cost. You could consider downgrading your device to the April update, but the process requires an unlocked bootloader- which will not only factory reset your device but could even nullify its warranty!
Fixing an issue that came to light after installing an official OTA update by voiding our warranty! Ah, How counterintuitive could it get! Anyway, this is how things have been for this and a major part of the last year too. So even if the issue gets addressed with the July update, don’t keep your hopes high as it will definitely make a comeback within a month or two, otherwise, after all, how else could it leave its USP behind?
With that said, we would update this post as and when there is any further development surrounding the Pixel 7 Pro battery drain issue on the June 2023 update. In the meantime, you are free to drop in your queries or voice your frustrations in the comments section below.
