In this guide, we will be discussing the missing “While iPhone is locked” DND feature in the latest iOS 15 Beta build. In its recently concluded WWDC event, the Silicon Valley Giants introduced the fifteenth iteration of the OS upgrade to the masses. With that, there is a slew of new and noteworthy features that could get a hold of. These include the likes of new notification filters based on user status, quick access to privacy data, updated iOS lock screen, among others.
At the time of writing, the update is still in the beta stage, and the users who have voluntarily signed in for Apple’s beta testing program could grab this update. And there are quite a few who have indeed done so. While they have welcomed all these features with some enthusiasts, they seem to have found a major feature missing from the DND’s Silence section- the “While iPhone is locked” feature is currently missing from the iOS 15 Beta version. So here’s what really happened.

While iPhone is Locked Feature Missing in iOS 15 Beta
Using the Do Not Disturb feature, you could effectively mute all your notifications, alerts, and calls, or customize them according to your requirement. The latter allowed you to add some exceptions so that you could continue to receive notifications even when DND is enabled. To manage all these, there were two different options under Settings > Do Not Disturb: Always and While iPhone is Locked.
The first one would result in the blanket mute of notifications at all times: when you are using the device and even when the keypad is locked. On the other hand, the second option will only mute alerts when your device’s keypad is locked. This is a much better option for a lot of users as they wish to only quiet these alerts when they are away from their device. Unfortunately, this is the very option that has been removed.
Is There an Alternative to the “While iPhone is locked” DND feature in iOS 15?
So I have seen a few discussions doing the rounds that this feature has now been replaced with a new one. They suggest heading over to Settings -> Focus -> Do Not Disturb and then uncheck all the apps. However, this isn’t the correct approach as doing so will disable the notification in both the scenarios: when your device is locked as well as unlocked.
But the feature that we are discussing here only deals with the case when the iPhone’s screen is locked. So, unfortunately, that isn’t the alternative to the “While iPhone is Locked” DND Feature Missing in iOS 15 Beta. This then begs for the all-important feature: what needs to be done from your end? Follow along.
Bring Back the While iPhone is Locked DND Feature in iOS 15 Beta
As of now, we can’t conclude that this feature has been completely removed. This is because we are currently using the Beta build, and this is intended for A/B testing. In other words, the developers carry out internal tests and release experimental features for the testers. In turn, we are expected to provide them with our feedback.
Using these user suggestions, they mold the releases accordingly before it reaches the stable rollout. So as of now, there’s one thing that you need to do: head over to the iPhone Feedback Portal and request Apple to bring back this feature. There’s already a complaint lined up regarding this issue, having the Feedback ID FB9271353 (belonging to Reddit user Excellent-Freedom165).
So you may use this ID in your feedback (optional) so that Apple is able to bring all these reports under one roof. With this, we round off the guide on the missing “While iPhone is locked” DND feature in the latest iOS 15 Beta build. We will continuously update this guide as and when there’s any new development regarding the same. So stay tuned!
