iOS 16 Dark Mode Automatic Switching not working: How to Fix

In this guide, we will show you the steps to fix the issue of Dark Mode Automatic Switching not working in iOS 16. Apple’s underlying OS skin beholds a slew of noteworthy features. One among them is its ability to automatically switch over to the dark mode at sunset and then switch back to the light mode at sunrise. However, at the time of writing, this functionality isn’t working along the expected lines with the latest iteration of the OS.

Numerous users have voiced their concern that the Dark Mode automatic switching is not working on their iPhone running the latest iOS 16. The OS is unable to switch to dark mode at sunset, instead, users have to do it manually every time from the Display and Brightness page.

What is intruiging to note is the fact that it does switch to the light mode in the morning on its own, so the issue is only with the Dark Mode at sunset. With that said, there does exist a nifty workaround that shall help you rectify this bug. So without further ado, let’s check it out.

As of now, the automatic sunrise/sunset functionality is bugged and your only course of action is to opt for the custom schedule. For the unaware, you just need to type in the desired sunrise and sunset timings and the OS will automatically switch the theme based on the provided timings. The only drawback with this method in comparison with the automated one is the fact that you will have to manually change these timings when there’s a change in the sunrise and sunset timings.

To avoid this caveat, you could leave those timing in a fixed state for a couple of weeks since there isn’t any major change in sunrise and sunset timings every other day. After two weeks, Apple might end up addressing this issue but if that doesn’t happen, then you always have the option to change the timings. So with that in mind, here’s how you could implement this fix:

  1. To begin with, head over to Settings > Display & Brightness.
  2. Then enable Automatic and go to the Options section.iOS 16 Dark Mode Automatic Switching not working
  3. After that, select Custom Schedule and set the desired time for Light Appearance and Dark Appearance.iOS 16 Dark Mode Automatic Switching not working

That’s it. These were the steps to fix the issue of Dark Mode Automatic Switching not working in iOS 16. As and when Apple acknowledges this issue or gives out an ETA for the rollout of the fix, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workaround is your best bet.
