How to Hide the VPN Key Icon from Status Bar on Android

In this guide, we will show you the steps to hide the VPN key icon from the status bar on your Android device. Back in the day, we used to have a System UI Tuner built into the Settings menu. This allowed us to hide or unhide icons from the status bar with just a flip of a toggle. However, as is the case with Google, every good things must come to an end, and hence this functionality also met its sad demise.

So we went to the Play Store and searched for apps that would help us get this job done. And we did manage to stumble upon numerous such apps that would help us hide icons like battery, clock, GPS, WiFi, and Mobile Data, among others. However, as strange as it may sound, none of them had the option to hide the VPN key icon from the Status Bar on your Android device. Until we tried the last app listed on the Store and trust us, it is the best one out there!

The only reason why it’s not highly rated is due to the fact that it requires an additional one-time setup. But trust us, once you do so, you’ll be able to welcome a plethora of additional nifty features onto your device, which none of the others could claim to have. The icing on the cake? it’s an open-source app as well! So while it’s a little bit inclined towards the development side, but its rich collection of features is definitely worthy of a look. How to Hide the VPN Key Icon from the Status Bar on Android

  1. First off, install and setup Shizuku on your device so that the app gets wireless ADB access [if your device is rooted, then you may skip this step].
  2. Then download and install the System UI Tuner app from Play Store [GitHub].
  3. Now launch it and go through the on-screen tips until you reach the Grant Write Secure Settings. On that screen, tap Grant.hide vpn icon android
  4. If you’re using Shizuku, then you’ll get a prompt from it, tap Allow. For rooted devices, they will get a SuperUser prompt, tap Grant.
  5. Once done, perform a left swipe on your screen to move to the next steps. You may skip the rest of the permissions for now.
  6. Now tap on the Interaction to expand it and select Status Bar. Then select Icon Blacklist and expand the General section.hide vpn icon android
  7. Finally, just disable the toggle next to VPN and the icon will be hidden for good.
