Hey Siri still required after iOS 17 Update? You’re not alone

The seventeenth iteration of the OS has recently been rolled out by the Cupertino giant and the likes of updates to Messages, Phone, FaceTime, Interactive widgets, Standby Mode, and Contact Posters have managed to grab all the limelight. However, there are a few under-the-hood tweaks that didn’t get the appreciation that it deserved.

One such tweak is related to Apple’s digital assistant wherein you could now simply invoke it by saying Siri instead of Hey Siri. On paper, this might not sound like a great deal but if you are calling out the digital assistant numerous times throughout the day, then it could be a real-time saver. However, many users are unable to reap the benefits of this reward.

Many users have voiced their concern that they still have to say Hey Siri instead of just Siri to invoke the assistant, even after installing the latest iOS 17 build on their device. The majority of these reports are coming from New Zealand and Germany, so it might be the case of Apple slowing rolling out this feature in different regions of the world.

Is there a Fix

One workaround that seems to have spelled out success for “some” users involves changing the Language to Engish (United States) in Siri & Search. So you may give it a try and check if it works out in your favor or not.

Hey Siri instead of Siri on AirPods Pro? Here’s Why

Along similar lines, many users have reported that they have to still have to say Hey Siri instead of Siri on their AirPods Pro even though they could use the Siri command for other Apple devices [aka the feature is activated in their region]. So why exactly is this happening? Well, this could be due to the fact that the Siri command is not supported on the first-generation AirPods Pro.

According to the Apple User Guide on “Use Siri with AirPods Pro”, they have stated that “If you have AirPods Pro (2nd generation), you can also activate Siri with “Siri.” This all but confirms our aforementioned statement. This decision from the Cupertino giant sounds strange because implementing it doesn’t seem to be constrained by any hardware limitation. Maybe it could just be Apple’s traditional way of communicating the message that it’s time you upgrade your device!
