Here’s why you cannot swipe between watch faces on WatchOS 10

The Cupertino giant has recently rolled out the tenth iteration of update for its smartwatch. And as has been the tradition, you are about to welcome a slew of intriguing goodies this time around as well. These include the likes of Smart Stack widgets with glanceable information, Overhauled app designs, changes to cycling and hiking workouts, and new watches. If we talk about the latter, then it has been in the news for the past few days, and not for all right reasons.

Up until now [aka till watchOS 9], you just needed to perform a left or right swipe to change the watch faces. However, for some weird reason, Apple decided to add another step in between thereby ruining the entire process. Now you’ll have to first long press on the current watch face to bring up the Edit menu and only then you can perform a left or right swipe to change the watch faces.

Some of you might think that we are making a big deal out of this as the only addition in the process hardly requires a second. While that is true and it does sound like a small change on paper, but carrying out this task numerous times throughout the day is surely an infuriating user experience [yes, some of us do have a habit of switching to different watch faces based on the circumstances].

Why this change was introduced?

As to why the Cupertino giant decided to make this change is still debatable, but it could be attributed to preventing “Accidental watch face changing”, which to be fair does not even make an iota of sense. Even if a user ends up accidentally switching over to a different face then he or she just needs to perform a right or left swipe to go back to their original one. Forcefully implementing this feature just to prevent an illogical issue that “might” happen doesn’t really add up.

Was it Needed? Not At All!

Anyways, Apple always holds the keys to this door, they preciously had it as well and will continue to have it in the future too, the user’s opinion could take a back seat because that usually doesn’t count. With that said, what are your views on this new change of being unable to simply swipe between watch faces on WatchOS 10?

Have the users blown it out of proportion or is it an unwanted change that Apple could have stayed away from or should have given a granular control to the users to enable or disable it as and when needed? Do share your valuable opinions with us in the comments section below.
