Gesture Navigation not working with Android Auto December update

Google has recently rolled out the December update which was followed by the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 build. The latter brought a truckload of goodies to the fore, including the likes of WiFi Share Password, Private Space, and Notification Cooldown. But if we talk about the former, then it was a monthly security patch that irons out underlying bugs and enhances the system performance. This time around though it seems to have paved the way for the entry of a few bugs.

Most noticeable among the issues that made their presence felt is the Gesture Navigation is not working along the expected lines with Android Auto right after installing the December 2023 update. Whether it’s the swipe up to access Recents or the app drawer, swiping down to access the notification panel, or swiping from the edges to do a back gesture, all of them seem to be bugged currently.

Even the haptic feedback associated with these gestures isn’t working. Apart from Android Auto, some users were also able to reproduce this issue on their Pixel Dock 2nd Gen. As far as the remedial measures are concerned, there doesn’t seem to be any workaround that could spell out success. So for now your only way out is to opt for three-button navigation, which could be done by heading over to Settings > Display > Navigation Mode and selecting 3-button navigation.

As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. So stay tuned.
