Pixel Stops Charging/Slow Charging at 80%: How to Fix

In this guide, we will show you the steps to “fix” the “issue” of the Pixel devices not charging or slowly charging after the 80% mark. While the devices from the Silicon Valley giant are usually known for their timely OS upgrades and a clean stock OS experience, it also beholds a slew of intriguing features that doesn’t get talked about enough. However, out of all the nifty features in its arsenal, it’s the Adaptive ones that seem to be giving out a tough to many users.

Whether it’s Adaptive Connectivity, Charging, or Brightness, all of them have faced their fair share of criticism in the past. And that seems to be the case once again right now. Numerous users [most of them who have recently unboxed their Pixel] have voiced their concern that they’re witnessing a strange charging pattern with their device. During the night when they put their device to charge, it tends to charge normally till 80% but after that, it charges at a snail’s pace.

Anyways, they tend to leave it in that state and once they wake up in the morning, their device is fully charged. So a 20% charge which should only take less than half an hour taking overnight is sure to raise a few concerns in the minds of the users. So why is this happening and is it even safe for the battery? In this guide, we will be addressing all these queries. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Why Pixel Charges Slowly after 80%

Pixel Slow Charging 80%

First off, let’s address the elephant in the room- this is not a bug but an intended feature. Known as Adaptive Charging, it is used to dynamically control how quickly a Pixel device charges. So when you plug in your phone to the charger after 9 PM, with an active alarm set for 5–10 AM, then the Adaptive Charging kicks in. Once the battery level reaches 80%, it will slow down the charging by such a metric that your device gets fully charged right before your alarm rings.

This will result in prolonged battery life because if you keep your device in a charging state overnight and it gets charged to 100%, say by 2 AM, then for the rest of the duration [until the morning alarm kicks in] it will continue to receive power from the outlet, which might have an adverse impact on the overall battery life in the long run.

So to prevent that from happening, Adaptive Charging tends to dynamically control the entire charging process. However, this feature isn’t in sync with some users’ requirements, mainly due to the slow charge of their Pixel device after the 80% mark. If you also echo the same thought, then you could easily disable this functionality, as explained below.
