How to Flash Modem of a different region on Xperia 1 IV/V

In this guide, we will show you the steps to flash the modem of a different region on your Sony Xperia 1 IV/V device. The Japanese variant of this device [1 V] beholds 16GB RAM as opposed to 12GB for the internal variant. Likewise, while the Japanese variant allows you to easily unlock its bootloader, the same isn’t the case with its US counterpart. Owing to these reasons, many international users [especially in Europe, and countries like US and Taiwan] prefer to import the device from Japan.

However, doing so has a major caveat as well. As opposed to the US version, the Japanese variant doesn’t have support for the WiFi 6E 6Ghz frequency spectrum. So you might be left behind on the 5Ghz spectrum, which by any means isn’t slow, but it doesn’t make any sense to miss out on a higher spectrum when the hardware is fully capable enough to support it [yes, this 6E restriction is purely software based].

Therefore, in this guide, we will show you the steps to flash the modem of a different region onto your Sony Xperia 1 IV/V so that you can extract maximum network benefits out of your device. Follow along.

  2. Then download and install XperiFirm on your PC.
  3. Now download the desired region’s firmware via it.
  4. Then extract the firmware and transfer the three modem files to a new folder.
  5. Now download and install NewFlasher on your PC.
  6. Copy the NewFlasher.exe file and send it to that folder that has 3 modems.
  7. Now boot your phone into flash mode (plug-in USB then boot while holding Vol Down)
  8. Then open CMD and run newflasher.exe. That’s it. The flashing will now start.

  1. Open the phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#*
  2. Then go to pick Phone Information -> 3 dots in the top right -> Select Radio Band.
  3. Now choose the desired region, which in our case is the US.
  4. Then go back and set the Preferred Network Type to NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA.
  5. You should see NR Available True and NR State NOT_RESTRICTED.
