Ambient Mode conflicts with Tap/Lift to Check Phone on Pixel 7 Pro

Some users have reported that Ambient Mode tends to conflict with Tap/Lift to Check Phone feature on their Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel devices come with a slew of intriguing features, such as the ability to copy directly content from Recent Apps, the Live Transcribe functionality, the ability to unblur clicked images, and many more. On the flip side though, there are a few rough edges as well.

For example, the need to press enter after typing in the correct password, the location of the Close All button in the Recent Apps screen, among others. And now, you could add another minor UI bug to this list. A few eagle-eyed users have reported that the Ambient Mode tends to conflict with Tap/Lift to Check Phone feature on their Pixel 7 Pro.

When you enable Tap to Check Phone and Tap to Check Phone and keep the Always Show Date and Time, then upon picking up your device, you should be directly taken to the lock screen. However, that isn’t happening. Users are first greeted with the Ambient Mode wherein the Date and Time are mentioned and only after that they are taken to the lock screen.

While on paper it would only result in the delay of an additional second before reaching the intended destination of the lock screen, but if you interact with your device many times throughout the day, then this unnecessary appearance of the ambient mode will surely infuriate the users, even more so after they have explicitly disabled this feature.

No Fix/Acknowledgment yet

So is there a way out? Well, there’s no workaround or fix yet for this bug yet. This could be due to the fact that this problem hasn’t impacted the masses and doesn’t lead to any grave concerns for the OS or the device as a whole. But still, you could file a bug report and let Google know of the same.
