In this guide, we will show you a couple of methods to fix the issue of being unable to use eligible Pokemon in the Pokemon Go Evolution Cup. This augmented reality geolocation-based game created quite a buzz when it was initially released, and it’s safe to say that its hype is yet to settle down, all thanks to the intriguing quests and challenges that it gets blessed with.
As of now, the Evolution Cup is going on wherein only those Pokemon who have evolved at least once and have the capacity to evolve again are eligible to participate. However, this challenge is currently bugged as even the eligible pokemon who qualify for this requirement are unable to participate in the Pokemon Go Evolution Cup.
Some of the affected Pokemon include the likes of Golbat, Gloom, Shadow, Purified, Piloswine, and Shadow. Whenever users are trying to use any of these Pokemons, they are instead greeted with the ‘This Pokemon can’t be used in this cup’ error message. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide will make you aware of a couple of nifty workarounds to resolve this bug. Follow along,

Fix Pokemon Go Evolution Cup: Cannot use eligible Pokemon
It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success for you. So with that in mind, let’s get started.
FIX 1: Refresh Game Data
You might come across this issue in case the game data gets corrupted or outdated. So your best course of action should be to refresh the game data, which could be done as follows:
- To begin with, launch Pokemon Go and head over to the Settings menu.
- Then go to Advanced Settings and tap on Refresh Game Data.
- Now check if you are able to use eligible Pokemon in the Pokemon Go Evolution Cup
FIX 2: Delete Game Data
If the game’s configuration settings get corrupted, then you might have no choice but to opt for a fresh reinstall of the game. However, do note that doing so will delete all saved battle parties as well as your saved settings, so sync all these data with your account beforehand. Once done, you may then proceed with the below steps:
- To begin with, head over to Settings > Apps > See All Apps.
- Then select Pokemon Go from the list and hit Uninstall > Uninstall in the prompt.
- Once done, download and install it from the Play Store/App Store.
- Now launch it and sign in to your account. This time you wouldn’t face any issues.
That’s it. These were the two different methods to fix the issue of being unable to use eligible Pokemon in the Pokemon Go Evolution Cup. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix.
