Third-Party Music App search defaults to Apple Music on iOS 18

With the newest iteration of iOS, we have been blessed with a slew of intriguing features to the fore. Some of the noteworthy ones include the ability to Lock and hide apps, Change Lock Screen controls, redesigned Control Center, a revamped Photos app [which literally no one asked for], a new Password app, the delete button in the Calculator app [10 years too late in the making], and the ability to theme your Home screen.

However, there have been a few controversial changes as well, the most noticeable among which is the network connectivity box in the Control Center wherein AirDrop has been given a higher privilege over Bluetooth and carrier data and the lack of a standalone WiFi toggle [though you can add it via a nifty method]. And now, there is another questionable tactic coming to the fore.

Music App search defaults to Apple Music on iOS 18

Numerous users have voiced their concern that whenever they perform a song search via their custom third-party music player app on their iPhone running iOS 18, then the search results also include entires from the Apple Music app. So where lies the issue? Well, users have explicitly turned off the Apple Music app from the Settings menu but are still getting the results from the said app, which is definitely quite infuriating, to say the least.

Who’s the Culprit?

As far as the reasoning behind this is concerned, there’s no official confirmation, but it could be due to two factors- either the Cupertino giant is forcibly attaching users to its app [and hence its subscription services] or it is a bug, similar to what we saw a couple of years back [moat probably in iOS 14].

While it’s most probably the latter that is resulting in this “issue”, however, if we see the likes of Google, Apple, and Meta being involved in such a fiasco, then anything and everything is possible. With that said, we will be keeping close watch as this story unfolds and will update this post as and when there’s any official confirmation or at least a workaround to mitigate this problem. So make sure to keep a tab on this story and visit it at frequent intervals.
