Standby Mode automatically turns off: Bug or by design?

The newest iteration of the OS has just been rolled out by the Cupertino giant and your device is about to welcome a slew of intriguing goodies. Without going into great depth, the likes of updates to Messages, Phones, FaceTime, Interactive widgets, Pets and People in the album, and Standby Mode have managed to grab the attention of the masses. However, if we talk about the latter one, then it doesn’t seem to have attained the limelight for all the right reasons.

According to many users, the Standby Mode tends to turn off automatically after a brief period of time. In order to re-activate it, some kind of motion detection is required, such as moving your hands in front of it. However, that will once again activate it for a few seconds whereas the users want this feature to be active permanently so that they can easily view the time without having to do a motion detection task every time.

So this plants a seed of doubt in the minds of users and they are left wondering whether this is a buggy implementation or this is how things are supposed to work. Let’s find out.

Standby Mode automatically turns off: Bug or by design?

Standby Mode automatically turns off

As infuriating as it may sound, the Standby Mode getting automatically turned off is not a bug but rather this is by design. We even went to Settings -> StandBy -> Display -> Always On to verify the same and it clearly states that “When Always On is enabled, the display will intelligently turn off when not in use”. So this further puts the stamp of authority on the doubts.

While some might argue in favor of the tech giant that this decision was implemented to preserve your battery life but the very fact that the device would already be plugged into a charging state nullifies this claim. To make matters worse, some users have even said that the ability to re-activate Standby Mode via Motion Detection only works on iPhone 14 and 15 series, it doesn’t work on 13 and older models.

While we cannot verify this statement but if that comes out to be true, then it’s definitely going to ruffle a few feathers of the end users, which is completely justified. Because this Motion Detection tweak has nothing to do with hardware limitation, the iPhone 13 series could have also basked in this glory, if only it hadn’t been for Apple.

Due to this, many are once again tagging the Cupertino giant for playing its tactics of forcing users to upgrade to the latest iPhones. All in all, users are just left with third-party apps as an alternative to get this job done, which unfortunately, shouldn’t have been the case in the first place.
