Scroll bar appears when watching full screen YouTube videos [Fix]

The streaming service from the Silicon Valley giant is currently plagued by an infuriating issue. Numerous users have voiced their concern that a scroll bar tends to appear when watching a full screen video in YouTube.

To rectify this issue, users have already tried numerous workarounds, including deleting cache and cookies, changing zoom level and screen resolution, disabling extensions, and switching to other Chromium browsers, but none of them worked out in their favor. They have even made YouTube aware of this bug, which in turn had to say that “This might be YouTube’s chapter & seeking feature”.

However, that isn’t the case because the seeking bar only appears when one manually moves the mouse and on top of that, the seek bar tends to disappear after a few seconds. However, neither of these things is happening here. The seek bar tends to appear on its own and just refuses to go as well. So is there a way out? Well, we managed to find a nifty workaround that should help you rectify this problem. So without further ado, let’s check it out.

To rectify this issue, you need to tinker with one of Chrome’s flags. For the unaware, flags is an experimental feature in the browser that is used for debugging and testing purposes. And as of now, we will be using one of these lags to address the underlying issue. So without any further delay, let’s get started.

  1. Launch Chrome and head over to the below location:
    chrome://flags
  2. Next up, search the below-listed flag in the search bar
    overlay scrollbars
  3. After that, change its state to Enabled and hit Relaunch.
  4. Chrome will now restart with the said change triggered.

That’s it. These were the steps to fix the issue of scroll bar appearing when watching full screen YouTube videos. Do note that even after applying the aforementioned tweak, users have said that “This won’t fully fix the problem, but this way you won’t have an annoying scrollbar blocking your video.” So a bird in hand is worth two in the bush”!
