Safari 16 in macOS 12.6 cannot load multiple tabs at once

The Cupertino giant has recently rolled out the macOS Monterey update 12.6. Alongside that, it had also bundled in a newer version of the Safari browser. This sixteenth iteration of the browser’s update should at least on paper, iron out underlying bugs, bring in performance stability, and enhances the overall security. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have check-marked the performance domain.

Safari 16 cannot load multiple tabs

Recently we covered how Safari 16 was unable to load numerous Maps sites, including the popular Google and Apps Maps. And now there seems to be another unfortunate entry to this list. As of now, numerous users have voiced their concern that Safari 16 is no longer able to load multiple tabs at once in macOS 12.6. So if you have created a tab group and opened it, then it will only load the tab that you are currently on, the rest of the tabs will still be in a sleep state.

You will have to manually go to each of these tabs, click on it once, and then only Safari will be able to load it. Earlier, the browser used to load all the tabs at once in the background. However, it isn’t able to carry out this functionality now in the backend. Moroever, if you had set up a folder of tabs to open with one click in your Favourites bar, then that functionality ahs have also been broken with his update.

Similar issue in the past

What is even more intriguing to note is the fact that all these issues aren’t new, they had occurred in the past with Safari v14 and 15 as well. At that point in time, those issues took more than a week to be fixed, and expect a similar timeline this around as well. And even though this bug isn’t resulting in any significant issue, however, it is surely disrupting our workflow.

How to Fix Safari 16 cannot load multiple tabs in macOS 12.6

Asking the user to manually click all the opened tabs once so that the browser could subsequently load them isn’t the best UI/UX experience that one could have asked for. Moroever, even Safari 16 Technology Preview Edition is bugged as well, so there’s no benefit in switching over to it either.

So if this issue is way too much to deal with, you could consider temporarily switching over to Google’s ecosystem and try out Chrome’s Tab Grouping feature. As and when this bug is quashed, we will update this post accordingly and you could then come back and rejoin Apple’s ecosystem!
