Pixel Device Stuck on “Shutting Down” Screen: How to Fix

In this guide, we will show you various methods to fix the issue of the Pixel device stuck on the Shutting Down screen. Out of all the issues that you might come across on your Pixel device, this is out to be one of the scariest and equally infuriating ones. Doing a normal restart and your device gets stuck on the shutting down, well, things can’t get any worse.

It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started. FIX 1: Force Restart

If you haven’t tinkered with the device’s partition or the system files, then just doing a force restart should be more than sufficient to rectify this issue. For that, press and hold the power and the volume up buttons for at least 15 seconds and then your device should reboot to the OS.

FIX 2: Reboot from Fastboot

Next up, you should try rebooting your device to the OS from the Fastboot Mode. For that, press and hold the Power and the Volume Down buttons for a few seconds, and your device will boot to Fastboot Mode. Now bring up the Start option via the Volume Key [that should already be the case for most of you] and hit the Power key to confirm. Check if your Pixel device is able to boot to the OS, bypassing the Shutting Down screen.

FIX 3: Install Firmware via ADB Sideload

Your next course of action should be to install the software update via ADB Sideload. Do note that you can only install the same build that is installed on your device or the latest one; downgrading is not possible via ADB Sideload. FIX 4: Install Firmware via Fastboot

Using this method, you can install any firmware of your choice, even an older one. But not only will it lead to a factory reset, it also requires an unlocked bootloader. So this tweak will work under two instances: if the bootloader is already unlocked or if you have at least enabled OEM Unlocking but the bootloader is still locked.
