My Maps Anonymous uploads are not allowed [Fixed]

The handy free web-based tool from the Silicon Valley giant which allows you to create custom maps for both personal and professional usage is currently giving quite a tough time to the end users. Likewise, some users have made an Excel file with different locations but are getting the aforementioned error when trying to import the file into My Maps. Apart from that, users are also facing this issue when trying to import map data using KML and CSV files. Moreover, the fact that this issue has been going on for ages but is yet to be rectified is only adding salt to the wounds.

Not to mention the fact that users have already tried downloading the Excel again from Teams as well as closing My Maps and re-opening it again but to no avail. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide will make you aware of some handy workarounds to address this issue. Follow along.

Fix My Maps “Anonymous uploads are not allowed”

My Maps Anonymous uploads are not allowed

It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.

FIX 1: Via Google Drive

Instead of uploading the file locally from your PC, try doing so via Google Drive. While it would require an additional effort of first uploading the file to Drive, but it will be worth the effort as it might help you rectify this issue.

FIX 2: Switch Tabs

On your PC, use the “Google Apps” icon near the right end of the Gmail Toolbar and open Google Sheets. Then switch back to the Maps window and the import should now work. It will continue to work even after you close the Google Sheets tab. (No need to actually do anything in Google Sheets, just open it in a tab).

FIX 3: Delete Cookies

Some users were also able to rectify this issue after deleting the stored browser cookie. However, do note that doing so will sign you out from all your signed-in websites. If that’s well and good, then refer to the below steps and get this job done right away:

  1. To begin with, head over to the Google My Maps website.
  2. Click on the tab at the top left of the web address (= sign).
  3. Now go to the Cookies & site data> Manage on-device data.
  4. Then select Delete All. Then sign in to your Google account.

FIX 4: Use Microsoft Edge

If none of the aforementioned methods work in your favor, then your last course of action should be to use a different browser [preferably a Chromium one], such as Microsoft Edge.

That’s it. These are the four different methods that should help you fix the “Anonymous uploads are not allowed” error when trying to import files into Google My Maps. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when that happens, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
