In this guide, we will be discussing some plausible fixes regarding a bug wherein the iPhone/iPad rear camera displays a mirror image in Duo video calls. This video calling app from the Silicon Valley giants probably offers the video calling experience in comparison with all the third-party apps present in this domain. Providing end-to-end encryption, optimized for low-network usage and the popular Knock Knock feature are just some of the noteworthy names in its arsenal.
However, in spite of all the goodies attached, it isn’t free from its fair share of issues either. As of now, various users have voiced their concern wherein the rear camera image from their iPhone or iPad appears mirrored or inverted during Duo video calls. So whatever is on your right side will appear on the left in the video call. This issue first came to light when Google updated the app to version 164.
In this regard, they had recently rolled out another update [version 165] for iPhones with the same old generic changelog- ‘Bug fixes and performance improvements. But even after installing the said update, the issue is still persistent, so the latest update hasn’t yet addressed this issue. So is there any other bug wherein the iPhone rear camera displays a mirror image in Duo video calls? Well, let’s check it out.
Fix iPhone rear camera displays a mirror image in Duo video calls?
To resolve this bug, we have already tried all the basic workaround including the likes of deleting cache and data, reinstalling the app, changing the display orientation in between the call, and even resetting the device [iPhone/iPad]. However, none of them spelled out success, which to be fair was understandable as it is a server-side issue and user-side workarounds weren’t expected to provide any respite.
So this then begs the all-important question- are the developers aware of this issue? Well, they are and they had even rolled out version 165, however, even that didn’t work out for the affected users. So as of now, we are waiting for the next patch to be released. As and when that happens, we will update this post accordingly.
