In this guide, we will show you the steps to upload/import video to Audacity. I recently started my YouTube channel [which by the way is about to reach 1K subs, so thank you all, and sorry for the shameless self-promotion right in the intro para itself] and the initial recordings were just done with a basic microphone. So the audio quality was just about decent.
So to further improve things, I purchased a condenser noise-cancellation microphone and got hold of arguably the best digital audio editor and recording software Audacity. Up until this point, I tend to use iMovie which just about did its job without any advanced functionalities. But with Audacity, things are different and for good! It beholds a slew of intriguing and nifty features in its arsenal which is literally unparalleled by any other open-source software out there.
However, since Audacity is an audio editing software, I had some doubts about whether or not I will be able to upload/import the video to Audacity. And my concerns came true- you cannot directly upload/import video to Audacity, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t support this feature- you just need to import the FFmpeg Library and your tasks stands complete. And in this guide, we will show you how to do just that. Follow along.
How to Upload/Import Video to Audacity
- Launch Audacity and go to Preferences > Library. Then click on Download next to FFmpeg Library.
- Now click on Installing FFmpeg link and then download that library corresponding to your OS [Windows/Mac/Linux].

- Once downloaded, launch it and proceed with the on-screen instructions to install it.
- Once installed, restart Audacity and go to Preferences > Library. It should now show you the FFmpeg Library version.
- If it doesn’t, then click on Locate and wait for the process to complete. Once done, you’ll get the Success message.
