How to Transfer Files from Internal Memory to Root Directory on Android

In the earlier days of Android, transferring files from the Internal Storage [commonly known as sdcard] over to the root directory on Android wasn’t required much. However, ever since the Play Integrity fiasco, it has now become the talk of the town. And since you have landed here, there’s a high chance that you might be looking to get this job done as well. For the unaware, the Play Integrity Test encompasses three tests- Basic, Device, and Strong.

While you can easily pass the first two by flashing a couple of modules, for the third one, you need an unrevoked keybox XML file. Once you have got hold of that file, you’ll then have to transfer it to the /data/adb/tricky_story directory. This is where things begin to get complicated for some. If you also fall in the same bracket, then fret not as this guide will help you streamline this process and get the job done with ease. So without any further ado, let’s get started.

Do note that in the Android ecosystem, the root directory is more often than not interchangeably used with the first location of the Internal Storage as well [i.e. the location where all the folders like Android, Download, Music, Notifications, Music, Pictures, etc are placed]. But we are not talking about that directory here. For this guide, the root directory means the SuperUser directory where the likes of data, product, system, vendor, and other such directories exist].

Moreover, we have listed two different methods that will help you get this job done. Go through their perks and drawbacks once and then try out the tweak that is in sync with your requirements. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

METHOD 1: Via Solid File Manager

Benefit: It offers a sleek, clean, and fresh UI, something that we cannot say for the other entry in this list. Owing to all this, it offers an easier way to access the root directory.

Drawback: Its free version is filled with ads [which isn't the case with the other entry in this list]. While you can remove these ads by purchasing its paid version [which will also support the devs], however, having ads in a File Manager app is the most infuriating user experience that one could have asked for.
  1. Download and install the Solid File Manager app from the Play Store.
  2. Then launch it, give it the storage access, and agree to their licenses.
  3. Now tap on the hamburger menu and select Root from the directory.
  4. Next up, tap on Grant in the SuperUser request prompt that appears.Transfer Files from Internal Memory to Root Directory on Android
  5. Then enable Auto Rotate from the QS tile or via Settings > Display.
  6. Rotate your device in landscape mode and you’ll get two tabs: Root & Internal Memory.
  7. Long press the file and hit the Copy icon in the Internal Memory.
  8. The paste icon will now appear in the Root tab, just tap on it and the file will be pasted.Transfer Files from Internal Memory to Root Directory on Android

METHOD 2: Via Mi Xplorer

Benefit: Apart from the ability to access the root directory, it beholds a slew of additional goodies and more importantly it is ad-free.

Drawback: While it's not exactly a drawback, but some users might find the UI to be a tad bit outdated. For me, personally, that isn't a major cause of concern as it is still getting the job done with ease.
  1. Download and install the Mi Xplorer app from the developer’s official Google Drive link.
  2. [NOTE: To support the developer, consider installing the paid version from Play Store].
  3. Launch it, give it storage access, and agree to their license after going through it once.
  4. Now tap on the hamburger menu, select Root, and tap Grant in the SuperUser prompt.Transfer Files from Internal Memory to Root Directory on Android
  5. Head to the desired root directory, tap on the downward icon and select Add new tab.
  6. Access the desired location in this new tab, long press on the desired file, and hit Copy.
  7. Now go back to the original tab where this file needs to be pasted and tap on Clipboard.
  8. Then tap on the copied icon and the file will be pasted there. Your task stands complete.

That’s it. These were the two different methods through which you can transfer files from the Internal Memory over to the root directory. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible.
