This guide will show you the steps to install a different region ROM on your Xiaomi device with a locked bootloader. If you want to make a switch from one region to another, then the easiest way is to flash the Fastboot ROM. However, that process involves an unlocked bootloader, which not many are willing to do. And that is completely understandable.
The reason for the same is the drawbacks that this process involves, such as the Play Integrity fiasco which will result in your inability to use banking and payment apps. So what else can be done? Well, there does exist a nifty workaround using which you can still install a different region ROM on your Xiaomi device and that too on a locked bootloader. How to Install a Different Region ROM on a Locked Bootloader on Xiaomi
- To begin with, download the Recovery ROM of the desired region.
- After that, download and install the ZArchiver app on your device.
- Now go to Settings > About Phone > tap on HyperOS > overflow icon.
- Tap Download Latest package. As soon as the download starts, stop it.
- Now open File Manager > go to Downloads folder > downloaded_rom.
- Copy the name of the ROM that was being downloaded, and then delete the ROM.
- Likewise, open the Downloads app and remove the ROM from there as well.
- Now, rename the downloaded ROM [from step 1] with the one that you had copied.
- You’ll have to rename it from the ZArchiver app [File Manager wouldn’t be able to do so].
- Now open File Manager and move this new ROM to Downloads > downloaded_rom.
- Go to Settings > About Phone > tap HyperOS > tap overflow icon > Download Latest package > select the new ROM.
- NOTE: If you go to Download > downloaded_rom folder, you’ll see two ROMs- one that we have placed and the one that is being downloaded.
- Wait for the download and extraction to complete. Once done, restart your device.
- It will now boot to the new ROM with the changed region.
