How to Fix Throttling Issues in OnePlus Devices

In this guide, we will show you a couple of handy methods that should help you fix the throttling issues on your OnePlus device. Numerous OEMs put a cap on the maximum device resource that you can exhaust. If tey don’t do so, then the resource hogging apps and games will keep on exhausint ghte device’s CPU, GPU, and RAM beyond the permissible limit, which might or rather will have some adverse impact on the device’s overall condition, including battery degradation and device overheating.

However, the important keyword to note here is “in the long run”. If you just want to push your device to the absolute limit for running an app for a few hours, then it wouldn’t lead to any drastic negative consequences on your device [apart from the slight overheating]. But since the OEM has put in certain restrictions in place, you wouldn’t be able to extract the maximum potential of your device.

As a result of which, you might have to face issues like FPS being locked to 55, Touch sampling rate dropping from 240Hz to 120Hz, and display-related features like “Image Sharpener” and “Video Color Boost” no longer working. So is there a way to bypass these constraints? Well, there does exist a couple of handy methods that should help you address this issue. So without further ado, let’s check them out.

Do note that removing these limitations and using resource-extensive apps for a longer time frame might have an adverse impact on your device. So only use this tweak for a short while and then re-enable the throttle when you’re done using those apps/games. [Credits for these tweaks: XDA Senior Member Asura].

Moreover, there exist two different methods through which you can get this job done and we have shared both of them below. Go through their caveats and perks first and only then make a decision accordingly. So keeping these points in mind, let’s get started. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

METHOD 1: Without Root

Benefit: Since it doesn’t require root, you’ll be saved from all the fiasco of Play Integrity, issues with banking apps, unlocking bootloader, etc.

Drawback: After applying this method, you won’t be able to access the battery section in settings (e.g. Battery > App) to view stats and detail.

  1. First, download and extract Android SDK Platform Tools on the PC.
  2. Then enable USB Debugging and connect your device to PC via USB.
  3. Now open the Command Prompt inside the platform-tools and type:
    adb shell
    pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oplus.battery
  4. That’s it. You have now bypassed throttling on your OnePlus device.

METHOD 2: Via Root

Benefit: As opposed to the non-root method, it will have no impact whatsoever on the Battery section of your device.

Drawback: Since you’ll be rooting your device, you have to deal with issues related to Play Integrity, banking apps, and Netflix, among others.

  1. Download & extract Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
  2. Next up, root your device using the Magisk/KernelSU/APatch.
  3. Download the modules from below and flash it on your device.

  4. Finally, restart your device so that the modules get activated.

That’s it. These were the two different methods that should help you fix the throttling issues on your OnePlus device. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible.
