How to Fix Foggy/Moisture Lens Issue on Xiaomi 14/Ultra

In this guide, we will show you a couple of nifty workarounds that should help you fix the foggy/moisture lens issue on Xiaomi 14/Ultra devices. The fourteenth iteration of the devices from Xiaomi beholds a power-packed specs sheet with the likes of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 1TB 16GB RAM, and a massive 4610mAh battery. If we turn our attention towards the camera domain, then it has a triple rear camera setup, each of which is 50MP and the main camera is capable of recording 8K video at 24 FPS.

However, all this might only sound great on paper because in reality there seems to be a major issue going in with its camera. Numerous Xiaomi 14/Ultra users have voiced their concern that they are facing foggy lens issues, especially in cold and damp weather. This moisture is getting inside the camera and condensing the lenses, thereby making it quite difficult to take pictures or record videos.

A plethora of such complaints are also lined up across the Amazon UK listing [see below] of both these devices, apart from numerous complaints on several threads on Reddit. Another interesting thing to note is that the exact same issue was reported with the device’s predecessor as well, the Xiaomi 13T Pro, and we are witnessing it this time around as well. So it seems the OEM has still not learnt its lesson.

Selling a flagship at $1000 and claiming it to be IP68 but still having the lens getting foggy on a slight change in weather, well, all of this doesn’t really add up. To make matters worse, it has been well over 6 months since the issue first came to light, but Xiaomi has yet to accept it as a hardware design flaw. According to its statement to Android Central, here’s what they have to say:

“We reassure it is not a product quality issue. Instead, it is a natural phenomenon to encounter camera lens fog-up due to temperature differences between the lens and the surrounding air under some specific user environment. This is more common in situations where ambient temperature switches rapidly from high temperature to low temperature, long exposure to high temperature with high humidity, or water damage.”

This has really left me baffled and infuriated in equal measures as to how an OEM could be such hell-bent on not accepting its mistakes even though a majority of its users have been plagued by it. Fortunately, though we do have a couple of nifty workarounds that might help you rectify this issue. So without any further ado, let’s check them out.

It is recommended that you try out both the below-listed tweaks and then see which one spells out success. With that said, Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

FIX 1: Via 8K Video Recording

  1. Pull out the SIM tray from your device
  2. Keep your device in this state for around an hour.
  3. Now do a video recording for 20-30 minutes at 8K to heat the phone up a bit.
  4. Finally, put the SIM tray back in and check out the result.

FIX 2: Via Stress Test

  1. Pull out the SIM tray from your device
  2. Keep your device in this state for around an hour.
  3. Now download and install the 3DMark app on your device.
  4. Then launch it and do a stress test for around 20 minutes.
  5. Your device might heat up a little bit, it’s completely normal.
  6. Once the stress test is done, do an 8K video recording for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Finally, reinsert the SIM card tray and then check out the results.

That’s it. These were the two different methods that should help you fix the foggy/moisture lens issue on Xiaomi 14/Ultra devices. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix [and judging by their current statement, you shouldn’t expect one either]. As and when that happens [and more importantly if that happens], we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
