In this guide, we will show you a nifty method using which you can enable the Depth Effect on the wallpapers on your Android device. The sixteenth iteration of the OS from Apple bought in a slew of intriguing goodies. However, one that managed to grab the attention of the masses was the introduction of one of the most aesthetically pleasing UI/UX features dubbed the Depth Effect.
As is evident by its name, this adds a depth effect to the lock screen wallpaper by bringing the image’s foreground in front of the clock. However, as opposed to iOS, its Android counterpart didn’t have any such option to date [well, there were a few third-party apps that claimed to get this job done but the end result was highly disappointing]. Until now.
There now exists an impressive method using which you can add this effect to the wallpaper on the device running the OS from Google as well! And in this guide, we will show you how to do just that. So without further ado, let’s get started.
How to Enable Depth Effect on Wallpapers on Android
As opposed to iPhone, not every wallpaper on your Android device will support Depth Effect, because they weren’t made for that in the first place. So you might have to carry out a few Google searches and you’ll stumble upon some compatible images on Reddit and Pinterest [by compatible image, we mean an image that has a subject preferably in the middle and stands out from the background]. So get hold of the image and then let’s get started with the process.
Do note that we will be using the Pixel Xpert module which is compatible with stock Pixel UI and AOSP-based ROMs only [tested till the latest Android 15]. You may try out the module non-AOSP ROMs like OneUI, OxygenOS, and MIUI, but the mileage might vary or it might not even work. So keeping this point in mind, let’s get started.
- First off, root your device via Magisk/KernelSU/APatch.
- Next up, install the LSPosed Framework on your device.
- Now download the Pixel Xpert module onto your device.
- After that, launch Magisk and flash the Pixel Xpert module.
- Now restart your device and then launch the LSPosed app.
- Go to Modules and make sure that Pixel Xpert is running.
- Then set a compatible image as the lock screen wallpaper.
- Now launch Pixel Xpert and go to the Lock screen section.
- Enable Depth Effect Wallpaper and wait for a few minutes.
- Once you get the “AI model is downloaded on this device”.
- You may tweak the Wallpaper foreground opacity if needed.
- Finally, lock your device and then check out the results!
That’s it. These were the steps to enable the Depth Effect on the wallpapers on your Android device. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution at the earliest.
