In this guide, we will show you the steps to disable Recommended Websites on Start Menu on your Windows 11 PC. The OS from the Redmond giant has slowly but surely started bloating the system with tons of unnecessary stuff. One among them is its tendency to cramp up the Start menu with crappy websites that literally no one had asked for in the first place.
While Microsoft has given us the option to easily remove such websites by right-clicking on them and selecting Stop showing recommended websites but in my case, it only gives temporary respite. Moreover, even if it works as intended, then it will only be implemented for the current user and not for all the profiles. So I went on a stroll to my favorite place [aka Registry Editor] looking for a permanent solution to this issue and guess what, I stumbled upon one! So without further ado, let’s traverse that path.
How to Disable Recommended Websites on Start Menu
- Create a new text file and paste the below commands:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Softare\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer] "HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer] "HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites"=dword:00000001
- Then go to File > Save As > change Save As Type to All Files.
- Give it any name of your choice but keep the extension .reg and save it.
- Now launch that file. You’ll get a prompt, click on YES.
- The Recommended Websites stands disabled on the Start Menu.
How to Bring Back Recommended Websites
If at any point in time, you want to revert the change and bring back the Recommended Websites section, then create and run a new Registry Editor file exactly as shown above, just replace its existing value with the one shown below:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Softare\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer] "HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites"=- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer] "HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites"=-
