This mobile payment service from the Silicon Valley giant has completely streamlined in-app, online, and contactless purchases across Android devices. However, as of late, it is giving quite a scary time to its users by sending a rather concerning email that involves their debit card and Google Pay/Wallet account.

Google Pay: You added a new card to your Google Account
Many of them have reportedly said that they are getting the “You added a new card to your Google Account” in their email. So where lies the catch? Well, those users haven’t added any cards to their GPay! They went to the app and even verified the same, and thankfully there were indeed no cards added.
However, the fact that the email is completely legitimate and came straight from Google made the matter quite concerning, and understandably so. Moreover, the email even gives a link to “Manage your card”, tapping on which will take you straightaway to the GPay app from wherein you can manage your cards [though you should still not interact with that link for security reasons].
Usually, when you log in from a new account, change your password, or carry out any other related activities, then you get an email from Google that also states the following: “If you didn’t do this, please notify us or change your password immediately.” However, this time around, this line is absent from the email, thereby further complicating the matter.
What Can You Do?
To mark themselves safe from this fiasco, many users changed their Google password and deleted and re-set up their Google Pay account. Unfortunately, this didn’t help much as they were again greeted with the same email a few hours later. So is there a way out? Let’s find out.
Is Google Aware?
Fortunately, this is an issue from Google’s end and not a malicious and phishing email going around. The search engine giant has acknowledged this issue and has said the following:
“We are aware of an email notification that was sent by mistake about your card being added to your Google Account. Be assured there was no unauthorized access to your account. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
