Fix Missing Blur Effect on Notifications Bar and Control Center in Xiaomi

UPDATE 1 [August 2021]: There’s a new improved workaround that does wonders in this regard. It is highly recommended that you check out that trick as well: Bring Back the Blur Effect in Control Center in MIUI 12/12.5.

In this guide, we will show you how to fix the missing blur effect on the Notifications Bar and Control Center in your Xiaomi device. When it comes to customizations, there are not many OS skins that could compete with this Chinese OEM. Beholding a plethora of tweaks and modifications, it has literally reached the pinnacle of customizations.

While some such as the incorporation of ads aren’t liked by one and all, others such as the blur effect managed to attract quite a few fanbases. However, as of now, it seems that it is now finally time to bid adieu to this functionality. This is because this feature is being slowly removed from various devices. Some devices have already faced this axe, whereas, in others, it is being slowly removed in a phased-out manner.

By phase out, we mean that the feature has been removed from the device’s unlocked state and is only present when the keypad is locked. So if your device is also among the suffering parties, then fret not. This guide will show you the instructions to fix the missing blur effect on the Notifications Bar and Control Center in your Xiaomi device.

The Missing Blur Effect in Xiaomi: What’s the Issue?

For the unaware, Xiaomi has this blur effect behind its notifications bar as well as the control center. this definitely gives it a nice touch to the overall device UI. However, as already mentioned, this feature is already being removed. While there isn’t any official reason as such, the plausible cause is being attributed to better and more efficient battery optimizations. Personally, I don’t think it would be easily digestible by a large chunk of users.

Well, even if it is due to high battery usage, then the best route forward would have been to give an option to the users whether or not they wish to remove this feature. Directly removing this feature altogether doesn’t make much sense. But there seem to be silver linings among those dark clouds. In this guide, we will show you the steps to fix the missing blur effect on the Notifications Bar and Control Center in your Xiaomi device.

But as of now, things look rather bleak, and using an app seems to be the best route forward. What are your views on the same? Do let us know in the comments section below.

  • When the solution for a mistake that was created because “Lower end phones are having trouble handling the blur” is to make the users to use a third party app that won’t actually replace the control center but instead will create another one doubling the work the phone will have just to give us the blur back just shows how little Xiaomi cares for their ‘low end phone’ users. My phone is capable of running two control centers at once, one grey and another with the blur, without any hiccups, but the reason they made it grey is because it’s making my phone laggy? You can see that they decided to just turn down any low end phone at the wall instead of actually testing the system in each phone and deciding what phone needs it and more: Instead of making it an option they force it and make us feeling like we’re using the ugliest phone ever now.

I f***ng hate this decision, and I don’t think that forcing me to use a badly optimized app that needs to be paid to work well and has a chance to steal my info the better choice here. People should make sure to tell Xiaomi they aren’t happy with the decision.
