Mi Unlock Tool: Please rebind and try again error [Fixed]

In this guide, we will show you the steps to fix the ‘Please rebind and try again’ error in the Mi Unlock Tool. When it comes to the bootloader unlocking process, Xiami takes a slightly different approach. Rather than simply using the fastboot flashing unlock or fastboot OEM unlock command, it has its own dedicated tool to get the job done. And that in itself leads to quite a few issues. First off, you will have to wait for 168 hours [7 days] before you could even initiate the process.

Once that time frame elapses, you might then come across a slew of additional issues. Though truth be told, most of those bugs could easily be rectified from the user-end itself. However, as of now, users are getting the ‘Please rebind and try again’ error in the Mi Unlock Tool which they are unable to effectively address. The error started happening all of a sudden to users across the globe, so it pointed to a server-side issue.

To further verify the same, we checked out the error log [see below], and their servers were unable to find the getvar variables for the connected device [showing the FAILED (remote: ‘GetVar Variable Not found’) error]. Even if you head over to the Manage Devices section under your Mi Account page, the Model and Name will be both blanks. So is this server-side bug rectifiable from the user’s end. Well, turns out there exists a nifty method through which you could easily fix this error. So without any further ado, let’s check it out.

Fix Mi Unlock Tool: Please rebind and try again error

In order to resolve this issue, you will have to create a new MI account, set its region to the US, and then link your [same] phone number to it. After that, launch the Mi Unlock Tool, sign in with the new account and you shouldn’t face any issues. But there’s a catch. Since you will be carrying out this process using a new account, you will have to wait for 168 hours before you could start off with the unlocking process. It doesn’t matter whether you had already passed this time frame before, you will have to wait for 7 days again.

This is because that wait was done using your other account and this is a new one [even though the phone number is the same across both the accounts, but that doesn’t count in this case]. So with that in mind, let’s get started with the steps to fix the ‘Please rebind and try again’ error in the Mi Unlock Tool. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

Instruction Steps

  1. To begin with, head over to the Settings menu on your device.
  2. Then go to Mi Account and log out from the current account.mi unlock tool please rebind and try again

  4. Make sure to select the US region under the Mi registration page.

Concluding Remarks

So with this, we round off the guide on how you could fix the ‘Please rebind and try again’ error in the Mi Unlock Tool. Since this is a server-side bug, we aren’t exactly sure when this bug will be rectified. So it’s better to carry out the aforementioned steps and wait for 168 hours, rather than waiting for a  fix to be released by Xiaomi.

Though one benefit of the latter is you wouldn’t have to wait for 168 hours if you have already done so in the past [as soon as the fix is rolled out, you may carry out the unlock process right away]. However, due to the lack of any ETA for this fix, this wait might be even longer than the 158 hours. So the decision is all yours to make. Weigh in the pros and cons and then decide accordingly.

UPDATE 1 [May 20th, 2022]

The Xiaomi servers are up and running again. So you could now carry out the bootloader unlock process using your old account itself.
