In this guide, we will show you a couple of handy workarounds that should help you preview the Canon CR3/CR2 and Nikon NEF files on your macOS 15.4. The latest update to the Mac seems to have created havoc for the photographers. Right after installing the latest OS release, it has become quite a challenging task to identify their photos.
Instead of showing the actual thumbnails of CR3, CR2, and NEF photographs, Finder is only able to show a black thumbnail of these photos. As of now, Fuji’s is the only format that seems to be working along the expected lines. With that said, if you are also facing a hard time with Canon and Nikon, then this guide will make you aware of some nifty workarounds that should help you rectify this bug. So without any further ado, let’s check them out.

Fix Cannot Preview Canon CR3/CR2 Nikon NEF Files on macOS 15.4
It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.
FIX 1: Resize Tweak
Some users were able to get temporary respite from this bug by resizing the Finder window or zooming in and out of it. So, do give it a try and see if it works out or not.
FIX 2: Using Third-Party Apps
In my case, rectifying this issue was on an urgent basis, and I was not in the position to wait for the Cupertino giant to get this issue addressed. Not to mention the fact that the resizing tweak hardly worked for you. So I was left with no choice but to opt for a third-party app Camera Raw X. So what’s the issue with this approach? Well, this is a paid app that costs $7.99!
I am really infuriated that I had to shell out this much of an amount for an issue that was caused by Apple. But since I wasn’t in a position to play the waiting game, I had to empty my pockets and get this app right away. Do note that I am in no way promoting this app; there are other similar apps as well, you can give them a try if you want. I downloaded this app, and it worked for me, so this is the only reason I mentioned it here.
That’s it. These were the two workarounds that will help you preview the Canon CR3/CR2 and Nikon NEF files on your macOS 15.4. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
