Fetch Mail not working on iOS 18/iPadOS 18 for many users

The eighteenth iteration of the OS build has bought in a slew of goodies to the fore, with the changes to the Photos app, Calculator, a new Password app, tweaks to Control Center [not to mention the weird decision making to not have a separate standalone toggle for WiFi, and the ability to theme the home screen elements. However, this OS also accompanies quite a few bugs with itself, with the Mail app being the latest impacted entity.

Three Types of Apple Mail Options

For the unaware, there exist three different options via which emails will be received in the Apple Mail app: Push, Fetch, and Automatic. In Push, the emails and notifications are pushed in real time as they arrive in your account. On the other hand, in Fetch, the emails are fetched by your iPhone at a fixed regular interval set by you, such as every 15 minutes. If we talk about Automatic, then your iPhone will fetch the email when your device is connected to the WiFi and is being charged.

Out of the three aforementioned settings, Push is set by default but there are a bunch of users who use the Fetch option, and for them, it’s turning out to be quite a challenging time period. Many of them have voiced their concern the Mail app fails to fetch emails at the designated time interval on their iPhones running the latest iOS 18.

While they do see the notification count badge on the app’s icon, but open opening the app, the emails aren’t even downloaded yet. And in some cases, they don’t even get a notification badge. Moreover, the issue isn’t just prevalent on iPhones but has also been reported on iPads running the latest iPadOS 18. So this begs the all-important question- is there a fix? Well, not at the time of writing.

We tried deleting and re-adding our email account but to no avail. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers have yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, it is recommended that you send the issue report to Apple via apple.com/feedback. The earlier they are made aware of this problem, the faster will the bug be quashed!
