Why are External Display Support options missing in iPadOS 16?

In this guide, we will make you aware of the reason why External Display Support options are missing from your iPadOS 16. The latest iteration of the OS has bought in a slew of intriguing features. Some of the noteworthy ones include the likes of Stage Manager, multitasking with overlapping windows, new collaborative tools, shared tab groups in Safari, and the support for external display. However, the last-mentioned feature is giving out a tough time to the end users.

Many of them have voiced their concern that the External Display Support is missing from their iPadOS 16. According to them, the feature was missing from the first beta build and is still absent in the latest OS version, which at the time of writing is 16.1 beta 5. As a result of which, the likes of full screen, extended display, and display position are all missing. Only the screen mirroring feature is present as of now. So why is this happening? Let’s check it out.

This feature has not been rolled out and it would be added in a “future release”. So this feature might not even be added in iPadOS 16.1 and the earliest you could welcome this feature is in iPadOS 16.2 or the first beta after the public release of iPadOS 16 [the latter could happen on October 24th].

So with this, you would have got a decent idea as to why External Display Support options are missing from your iPadOS 16. As and when it gets live, we will update this guide accordingly.

  • Am I missing part of the article? I don’t see any explanation of why the external display options are missing. I see you restating the apparent fact that they are, but your headline implies that you will explain why. The explanation of why is completely absent from your article, just like the feature is completely absent from iPadOS 16. Web searches turn up lots of results about this new feature of iPadOS 16 but no articles about why it isn’t actually there.

  • I just upgraded my iPad pro to 16.1 as its finally released and plugged in an external display, its just mirrored! No extended display. This is even more confusing as I’ve been looking around for answers and there’s plenty of youtubers showing off how it extends the display, so what gives? Its a USB 2nd monitor. There’s no options to choose between mirroring and extending. Unless I’m missing something obvious.
