While on one hand, we are busy listing down new features that the latest iteration of the OS has to offer [redesigned Control Center, Photos and Calculator app, a new Password app, Home Screen customization options], on the other hand, we are trying our best to catch ip with a plethora of bugs that iOS 18 is currently bugged with.
Issues like Email not deleting from iPhone iOS 18 when deleted from Mac, Siri not responding when iPhone is unlocked on iOS 18, and Fetch Mail not working on iOS 18/iPadOS 18 for many users are giving quite a tough time to the end users. And now, there is another infuriating and equally scary bug that has just managed to creep in.

Deleting messages on the Watch deletes entire conversations on the iPhone
Numerous users have voiced their concern that when they tend to delete a message from their Watch, then it ends up deleting the entire conversation thread on their iPhones. Upon deleting a single message, the confirmation prompt on the watch states “Would you like to delete this conversation” and upon replying in the affirmative, all your messages on your iPhone will be deleted.
So if you are looking to just delete one or two messages on your Watch, then that is no longer a possibility. Earlier, the sync was only from iPhone to Wach, but now, it seems to have a dual route- and that could be one reason why deleting messages on Watch is having a direct impact on the phone.
But that still doesn’t justify the reasoning behind deleting all the messages on the phone when you are deleting a single one on your watch. We last tested this on iOS 17.3.1 and watchOS 9.6.1, and things we running as expected- a one-way sync from iPhone to Watch. So this begs two important questions- how to get back your deleted messages and is there a fix? Let’s find out.
How to Recover the Deleted Messages
- Launch the Messages app and click on “Edit” at the top left.
- Now click “Show Recently Deleted” followed by “Recover All”.
- That’s it. All your deleted messages should now be recovered.
Is there a Fix?
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there doesn’t exist any workaround that might help you address this issue. More importantly, we are even yet to ascertain whether it is infact a bug or an intended change from the Cupertino giant because if it is the latter, then things are definitely going out for a toss and there’s going to be some massive uproar from the users, which will be completely justified.
With that said, we will be keeping a close watch on this development and will update this post as and when this story unfolds further. So do keep a close tab on this write-up and visit at frequent intervals for the latest updates.
