In this guide, we will show you a couple of handy workarounds that should help you fix the issue of being unable to save the Instagram story to your device. There can be quite a few reasons why you might want to get this job done. Some users have tons of installed filters, and they want to take a photo using one of these filters, but don’t necessarily want to post it or wish to post it to any other platform, such as Facebook or WhatsApp.
Likewise, if you are planning to post it at a later date, then the best bet is to save it locally to your device. Or if you want to send this photo to any other user who’s not on Instagram [yes, all of 8.2 billion users don’t use this app], then you would also take this approach. But what if it isn’t working along the expected lines? Well, that has indeed been the case as of now, which is giving quite a tough time to many. If you are also in the same boat, then fret not, as this guide is here to help you out. Follow along for the fixes.

Cannot Save Instagram Story to Device [Fixed]
It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.
FIX 1: Save Story from the Chat Screen
As is evident from the heading, you can save the story even from the chat window, without actually sending the image to the concerned person. Here’s how it can be done:
- Launch Instagram and open the chat window of any random person.
- After that, tap on the camera icon at the bottom left and take a photo.
- Then tap on the save icon at the top right and the image will be saved.
- Then hit the cross icon to exit this window and hit the Discard option.
FIX 2: Downgrade Instagram
This bug seems to have originated from the latest Instagram build. So you should consider downgrading it to its earlier stable build by downloading the said APK from a trusted third-party site. However, this ‘fix’ is only applicable for the Android devices and not iOS.
That’s it. These were the two different workarounds that should help you fix the issue of being unable to save the Instagram story to your device. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when any of these two things happen, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
