In this guide, we will show you the steps to fix the issue of being unable to install Shamiko and being greeted with the Unzip Error or Installation Failed. Over the past couple of years, tech enthusiasts have had to think twice before gaining administrative privileges over their devices. A major reason for the same is the stringent security measures put in place by Google.
Initially started with SafetyNet and now moved over to Play Integrity, if your device fails this test, then you won’t be able to use banking and payment apps and even the likes of DRM-protected content like Netflix. Although we now have a nifty workaround using which you can pass even the Strong Integrity, however, it is quite a challenging task due to the requirement of an unrevoked keybox XML file.
You can also use the Magisk Hide in combination with its Denylist and the Play Integrity Fix module to pass the Basic and Device test which might get the job done as well. Apart from that, we have the Shamiko app which is quite handy when it comes to hiding roots. However, there have been a few reports wherein users have voiced their concern that the module isn’t working along the expected lines.
Whenever they are trying to flash Shamiko via Magisk, they are instead greeted either with an Unzip Error or an Installation Failed message. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide will make you aware of a handy workaround that should rectify this issue. So without further ado, let’s check it out.
Cannot Install Shamiko: Unzip Error/Installation Failed [Fixed]
The reason why you are facing this issue could be two-fold: first off, you are using the stable or beta build of Magisk whereas Shamiko requires the Canary build. Secondly, the newest version of Shamiko [at the time of writing, it is v1.1.1-357] now follows the XZ zip format, which older Magisk and KernelSU do not support. So let’s merge both these factors and implement the fix right away.
But before that, please take a backup of all the data on your device, just to be on the safer side. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.
- First off, download the latest Magisk Canary build from here.
- Now launch the APK and you’ll get the Update option, tap on it.
- Then launch Magisk and tap the Update button next to Magisk.
- Now select Direct Install and wait for the installation to complete.
- Once done, hit Reboot. Your device will boot to the latest Magisk Canary.
- Then launch Magisk and flash the latest Shamiko-v1.1.1-357-release.zip.
- If you are unable to flash that version, then flash Shamiko-v1.1-344-release.zip
- Finally, restart your device, and the module will be up and running.
