Cannot Hide Safari Tab Bar in iPadOS 16.4? It’s Removed!

With the fifteenth iteration of the OS rollout, one of the biggest taking points was the introduction of the Tab bar in Safari. This occupied a new bottom position but had the same old set of functionalities as before. However, this change didn’t go down too well with a subset of users Fortunately, the Cupertino giant did give us more granular control over this feature as we could disable and re-enable it as and when required. However, that might no longer be possible now.

Beginning with iPadOS 16.4, numerous users have voiced their concern that they could no longer hide the Safari tab bar because the option to do has been removed. For the unaware. you could easily disable the tab bar from the Settings > Safari > Show Tab Bar toggle. However, that toggle is nowhere to be found after the latest OS update. So this begs the all-important question- is this a bug or an intended change?

Well, it could be the former due to the fact the feature is still present on the Safari iOS 16.4 build [usually every Safari feature change is in sync between both these devices]. Moroever, this ‘issue’ has only been reported by a niche segment of users. If Apple had decided to remove it, then the repercussion might have been more widely felt. Still, you should take it with a pinch of salt until we get hold of more concrete evidence.

As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are yet to acknowledge this issue, let alone give out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you file a bug report with Apple here and make them aware of the same at the earliest.
