Battlefield 2042 High CPU Usage after Season 3 Update [Fix]

In this guide, we will show you the steps to fix the high CPU usage in Battlefield 2042 after the Season 3 update. This first-person shooter game is the twelfth iteration in the popular Battlefield franchise and is the first in this lineup to support cross-platform functionality. Likewise, the game also gets blessed with updates at regular intervals, thereby adding a plethora of goodies in the form of missions, challenges, and quests. However, the latest update seems to have done more harm than good.

Battlefield 2042 High CPU Usage

Numerous Battlefield 2042 have voiced their concern that after installing the Season 3 update, they are witnessing an astronomically high amount of CPU usage. Till the second season, it used to be around 50-60% at the very max, however, this time around, it is hovering around the 100% mark more often than not. As a result of which, constant stutter, lag, freeze, and FPS drop are always on the cards. If you are also in the same boat, then this guide will help you out. Follow along for the fix.

Fix Battlefield 2042 High CPU Usage

Battlefield 2042 High CPU Usage

In order to rectify this high CPU usage issue in Battlefield 2042 Season 3, then you will have to limit the CPU processor count. To do so, create a new user.cfg file in the game’s main folder and then add the below commands. Do note that the below values are for quad-cores CPUs with Hyper-Threading (4 cores, 8 threads). You will have to make the changes that are in sync with your CPU accordingly:

Thread.ProcessorCount 4
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8"

On the other hand, CPUs with 6 cores and 12 threads could make use of the following values:

Thread.ProcessorCount 6
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 6
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12

Some other important points that you need to keep in mind are:

If you have 6/12 thread CPU - Thread.ProcessorCount 12 & Thread.JobThreadPriority 12
If you have 4/8 thread CPU - Thread.ProcessorCount 8 & Thread.JobThreadPriority 8
If you have 8/16 thread CPU - Thread.ProcessorCount 16 & Thread.JobThreadPriority 11 or 16
If you have 4/4 thread CPU - Thread.ProcessorCount 4 & Thread.JobThreadPriority 4

Once you have carried out the aforementioned tweak, it is recommended to delete the game’s cache files by heading over to the below location:

My Documents > Battlefield 2042 > Cache

That’s it. As of now, this is the best bet when it comes to fixing the high CPU usage in Battlefield 2042 after the Season 3 update. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when that happens, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
